THE LOCATION

The first hospital / clinic is located near the Equator in Pedro Vicente Maldonado, a small, tropical, rural village of about 5,000 people located west and slighty north of Quito, the capital of Ecuador. Pedro Vicente Maldonado, at 600m above sea level, is a 3 hour bus ride from Quito, which sits at 2800m above sea level in the Andes Mountains.

Pedro Vicente Maldonado is the geographic center of an area of the province referred to as the Northwest Region. There is a main boulevard in Pedro Vicente Maldonadro with small stores, pharmacies, and restaurants -- everything within walking distance. The hospital serves a surrounding area of approximately 50,000 people. The area around Pedro Vicente Maldonado is know for its exotic multi-colored bird population
