The Andean Health and Development model builds self-sustaining health care systems in rural, third world locations. Although most of the population in our locale is extremely poor, many can afford services. Our model is different from others because we run it like a business but still serve everyone. The model works!

More than 90% of your donation to Andean Health and Development go towards providing healthcare to rural Ecuadorians. $3 pays for an outpatient visit. $8 pays for a chest -ray. $60 pays for a normal childbirth. $200 pays for a cesarean section.

Meeting our Goals
Cost recovery for the hospital has steadily increased over the first 5 years as planned. In 2005, we spent $445,000 and recovered $310,000, giving us a cost recovery of exactly 70%. With new financing mechanisms being developed, AHD expects to be near 100% cost recovery very soon.

How does AHD invest your gift?
Your gift is used to help cover the deficit in the hospital operating budget. Money brought in at the local level is still not quite enough to cover the cost of all the services provided to the very poor people who live in this community. Donations are also invested in the people who work on a daily basis on site and in the field. The money assures quality in the hospital, helps develop relationships with local institutions, and creates mechanisms to cover hospital operating costs. As you can see by the prices for services, your donation goes an extremely long way for our patients.

Our Donors

We have been very fortunate to have had extremely generous supporters over the years. Donations have ranged from $25 to over $25,000 from individuals. We have received support from the Ronald McDonald House Charities for 2006-07 to supply 25% of our total budget.
