1997 -- 2007 Celebrating 10 Years of Improving Health in Ecuador
Primary healthcare, including preventative care, is what AHD provides in rural Ecuador.
QUALITY HEALTHCARE TO THE WORLD'S POOR
How do you deliver quality healthcare in rural areas of developing countries? How do you make it self-sustainable so that the local people can afford to pay via their own means?

Andean Health and Development has created a healthcare model that emphasizes quality care, dignified services, and self-sustainability. THE MODEL WORKS! Our first facility in Pedro Vicente Maldonado is
at 100% cost recovery -- which means the local people are paying for their healthcare!

AHD BEGINS WORK IN LA MANA
Building on the successful pilot project in Pedro Vicente Maldonado (PVM), Dr. David Gaus has started work on a second location in rural Ecuador: La Mana in the Cotopaxi Province southwest of Quito. In La Mana, the AHD Team will be focused on deploying the AHD Model to target four key areas: Clinical Services, Adminstration, Community Access and Utilization and Leadership Development.

Taking into consideration neighboring communities, upwards of 70,000 people are potentially served by Hospital La Maná. 70% are poor, indigent, marginalized sectors of society with an average family income of less than $250/month. 40% of the population are children; 25% women of reproductive age; 10% elderly patients.
